Looking Forward

We are looking forward to spring! We have wonderful programs for all ages planned to wash away the winter blues. We hope you will take time to read this newsletter and look at our website to find the programs that interest you.

We have a monthly calendar feature on our website that lists our activities for each month. We encourage you to check the website's calendar of events page so you do not miss upcoming programs and special events.

You can also find us on Facebook. Become a fan of the library to get notice updates for programming events, and holiday or weather-related closings.

We always have a web poll question on our web site. Please take the time to answer the questions posted here. Survey information from these polls helps us determine how to better serve you in the future. The web poll is located on the left side of our homepage.

We look forward to seeing you!

Easy Ways to Spend Less in 2010
Part two of a series featuring helpful tips for saving money

Save on... Home & Transportation

Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Replace the incandescent light bulbs in your home with compact fluorescent bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs use 70% less energy, don’t burn as hot, and last at least 10 times longer than a regular incandescent bulb. One regular 100W bulb burning for one hour can use 36.5 kW-hrs. If you replace that bulb with an equivalent fluorescent bulb, you can save 28.105 kW-hrs. To find out what your household savings might be for making the switch, use the ET: Fluorescent Lighting Cost Saving Calculator.

Clean your dryer ducts.
Lint accumulates quickly every time you use your clothes dryer. Over time, lint buildup can make your dryer work harder and longer to dry your clothes, costing you more money. By regularly making sure your dryer’s screens and ducts are clean, you can ensure you’re getting the most out of your dryer for less money. Good maintenance also helps extend the life of your appliances.

Get the best rates on parking before you fly.
Visit BestParking.com before you fly out to find the best deals for parking your car near the airport. Enter your arrival and departure times to generate a list of the cheapest parking deals in major cities and airports, and have it show you where they are on a map. You may even be able to search for coupons and special offers. Access it from your phone at www.mobile.bestparking.com.

Check your tires.
Make sure your tires have the right amount of air in them to match your car. Look for the vehicle’s information sticker on your car, usually on the driver’s side door jamb or in the glove compartment, to find the auto manufacturer’s recommendations. Using that recommendation instead of the one printed on the tire’s sidewall can gain you 3 percent more fuel efficiency. Different vehicles weigh different amounts, and the number on the tire isn’t vehicle specific.

5. In the Know
Bringing you valuable information each month that everyone should know

Make your own cleaning solutions.

Did you know you can make your own solutions for household cleaning that are eco-friendly and easy on the wallet? Using simple household foods and items you may already have in your cabinets, you can make cleaning solutions that work just as effectively as big-name store brands that may contain harsh chemicals.

Think of your household items in a new way! Lemons don't just smell good, their juice can be used to remove dirt and rust stains. Vinegar can remove tarnish, soap scum, and mineral deposits. Vegetable and plant-based cooking oils can dislodge dirt and hydrate woods that have been dried out by sun exposure. Use cheap shampoo as a bathroom cleaner to keep soap deposits from building up in sinks and showers.
