Q. How much does it cost to get a Library card?
A. Nothing! It is absolutely free!

NOTE: Persons living outside Lawrence county must have a Public Library Access Card (PLAC) to use the Bedford Public Library. Public Library Access Cards are valid for one calendar year. Please contact the Library for current PLAC fees.

Q. How do I get a library card?
A.  Library card applications are available at the main library and branch location.

* You must show proof of current address to receive a library card.

* All cards will be mailed.

* Any child under 14 years of age (or not yet in high school) must have his/her application signed by a parent or guardian.

* Two items may be checked out when a new card is issued. After receiving your card in the mail, sixty items may be checked out on your card.

Q. How long can I check out my materials?
A. Most materials are loaned for 21 days. Some feature DVDs are loaned for 7 days.

Q. How much does it cost to get books?
A.  Nothing! You can check out books for free.

Q. How much does it cost to get a new Library card if I lost mine?

A.  $2.00 for adults; $1.00 for children/young adults.

Q. What if I lose something I've checked out?
A. You will be charged for items checked out on your card that are lost or damaged. These fees will be used to replace the lost/damaged materials.

Q. Where is the Library?
A.  The main Library is located at 1323 K Street in Bedford. For directions, click here. There is also a branch of the library located in Hillcrest Shoppes off Ind. 37 at Judah.

Q. How many items can I get on my card?
A.  You can check out up to 60 items on your card.

Q. Are there limits to the number of videos I can check out?
A.  No. You can check out up to 60 items of any combination.

Q. My books are late, how much will my fine be?
A.  The fine is 10 cents a day for each item overdue, after a 3-day grace period. You will not be charged for anything until the 4th day your items are overdue.

Q. I usually need books for longer than two weeks, what can I do?
A. If you would like your items for more than 3 weeks, tell us when you check them out and you can borrow them for up to a month. You may also renew your items two times after the initial check out date. 

Q. How do I renew my books?
A. You can do it online, by phone via our automated system, call the main library at
275-4471 or the branch at 278-5247, or in person!

Q. Can I ask a reference question online?
A. Yes, you can! You can either fill out a reference form here, or e-mail us at bpl@bedlib.org.
