1. Library Shelver   
2. Circulation Assistant

 

1. Library Shelver, Part-time 12-14 hours per week.
Children’s and Young Adult Services Department.

SALARY: Salary $7.25 per hour.
Schedule will include evening and weekend hours.

REQUIREMENTS:
· Be willing to work flexible schedule.
· Be requested to work additional hours as emergency fill in.
· Be willing to work in all departments.
· Have the physical strength and agility to bend, reach lift, and carry heavy library materials, and push heavy book carts.

ABILITIES:
Working under the direct supervision of the Department Head the employee in this position will perform the following essential
job duties:


1. Work the required schedule.
2. Sort, cart, and re-shelve library materials.
3. Shelve and read shelves, keep materials in correct sequence.
4. Maintain neat appearance of shelves and reading areas.
5. Perform other similar tasks as assigned.
6. Project positive image of Library through manner and personal appearance.
7. Work effectively without supervision.

2. LIBRARY CIRCULATION ASSISTANT

JOB DESCRIPTION

Each employee will actively support and uphold the Mission and Vision statements of the Bedford Public Library.

Mission Statement: The Bedford Public Library is committed to improving the quality of life for its customers by providing access to services, resources, and information.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time. Hours will include evenings and weekends.

SALARY MINIMUM: 8.25 per hour.

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred.

Maintain excellent computer skills and be capable of learning new programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide excellent customer service. Communicate positive attitude to public and staff.

Perform public relations duties of the position including projecting a positive image of the Library through manner and personal appearance.

Check materials in and out. Place reserves for customers.

Issue library cards and maintain customer records.

Supervise computer lab. Provide customer service and assistance with computers.

Answer and route telephone calls in a professional manner.

Print reports and overdue notices. Check reports as needed.

Be familiar with Library policies and practices, including those that relate directly to customer service.

Maintain excellent computer skills and effectively use automated system.

Shelve, sort, and retrieve materials as needed.

Work required schedule.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical requirements:

This employee must be able to stand for long periods of time (in excess of four hours), kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds. This position requires flexibility, the ability to climb stairs, and push book carts in excess of 100 pounds.
