Library Update

Do you receive telephone notifications? An update on September 30th requires your action. An orange rotary phone appears over a bookshelf background.

Important Update

The Bedford Public Library will discontinue telephone renewal and notification services as of Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The decision to terminate the service was made due to upcoming budgetary cuts.

We strongly encourage all who currently use phone notifications to sign up for email or paper notifications before the September 30th deadline. By submitting your email, you will have access to your Online Library Account where you can renew items, place new items on hold, and keep track of all your physical and digital checkouts!

For more information or to update your contact information, please call the Library at (812) 275-4471 or visit the Library during open hours.

What do I need to do?

If you receive telephone notifications:

  • Visit the Library or call us at (812) 275-4471 before September 30th to have staff add your email to your account or request mailed paper notifications.

  • Verify your Library Card PIN to log into your Online Library Account

All accounts not updated on September 30th will automatically be converted to mailed paper notifications.

FAQ

  • What happens when I add my email to my account?

Adding an email to your account allows you to get emailed notifications for holds, due date slips for items you check out, courtesy pre-overdue alerts, and reminders to renew your Library card. You also gain the ability to reset your PIN and get notifications about our upcoming Library programs and events.

  • How do I see what's on my account and renew what I borrowed?

Your Library Card and PIN give you access to your Online Library Account, available by clicking here or looking for the My Account link on our Library homepage. You can log in here to see and manage your checkouts, holds, lists, and see all your digital borrows on Hoopla and Libby in one place.

  • How do I get a PIN?

Every account is automatically issued a PIN when you apply for your Library Card. This is typically the last 4 digits of the phone number you listed on your application, but you can always contact the Library to have staff assist you in recovering or resetting your PIN.
